Big Soup Share
Whizz up your home-grown veg and turn them into soup to enjoy with others!
In the green box you'll find a host of downloadable resources to help you take part. You can also register your interest to take part in the Big Soup Share 2020!
What is the Big Soup Share?
The Big Soup Share is a chance to celebrate the work you do in your garden by harvesting your crops, whizzing them up into a delicious soup and sharing it out with others.
You may wish to share your soup with the rest of your school or group, or hold a big event and share the soup with family, friends and other members of your local community.
After your event, we would love you to share your pictures and stories with us so we can see what you got up to!
On this page you’ll find lots of resources and activities to help you make your Big Soup Share extra special.
Who can take part?
Any schools, youth groups or community groups based in the UK can take part and apply to receive pack full of resources to help with your event. The premise is simple and we think it's a great way to engage with young people, whether young people are a part of your group already, or you're looking to engage with them more.
When can you host an event?
The Big Soup Share took place between Monday 7 October and Sunday 13 October 2019. You can use our online and printable resources to start planning, or to host your own unofficial Soup Share event whenever you like.
Your event can last a lunchtime, a whole day, an evening – it's up to you! You might even like to host a whole week full of tasty meals and activities.
Why should you take part?
We are very proud to have such an amazing community of gardeners in schools and groups across the UK. We see the Big Soup Share as a chance to celebrate all your good work and show others how fun growing food can be.
You can also use your Big Soup Share to:
Create or strengthen links with your local community
Find new volunteers willing to help with your garden, and thank those that already do!
Promote your school garden to the rest of your school, group or community
Use our resources to help plan for your event and help you with what to do afterwards
Promote healthy eating to others
Raise funds by asking for donations towards the soup or by selling plants, cakes etc.
Gain press coverage by inviting your local paper or radio station along to your event
Put the work you do to run the event towards your Level 5 application in the School Gardening Awards and become an RHS Five Star Gardening School, as well as earn £200 in Gardening Gift Vouchers (if your celebration includes the local community)
You can use your Big Soup Share event to achieve whatever goal you like but ultimately we just want you to have fun!
