Schools' Grow Green Planters Competition

RHS Chatsworth Flower Show 2018

Does your school or group have what it takes to design a winning Grow Green Planter for RHS Chatsworth Flower Show 2018?

About the Competition:

Schools in the Midlands are invited to come up with their best upcycled planter for the schools' competition at RHS Chatsworth Flower Show on Wednesday 6 June - Sunday 10 June 2018.

Theme:

Your planters should be created from upcycled objects and inspired by this year's theme 'Movement in the Garden'.

There is all sorts of movement in the garden that could inspire you! From the movement of air and water, to the movement of gardeners themselves - it's time to get creative. You could consider how the wind and rain move in our gardens or how plants move as they grow. How do you move when you're gardening, using your legs, arms, hands and back?

Who can enter?

Entries are welcome from all primary and junior schools (up to the age 11 or Year 6) from the following counties of England: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Yorkshire and West Midlands.

Schools must also be registered with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening. If you're not registered yet, click here

There is no charge for entering and only one entry per school or club is permitted.

Grow Green Planter criteria:

  • Every Grow Green Planter must include elements of plant material which can be a mixture of dried or living. Minimum requirements are that at least 70% of the Grow Green Planter is planted. Try using a mix of seasonal plants that have been both grown from seeds by the children and bought in to add a splash of colour.
  • Your Grow Green Planter should be freestanding and secure. You must use recycled and upcycled materials but it is important that the planters are substantial and able to withstand all weather conditions.
  • Grow Green Planters have a minimum size of 0.6m2 (approximately 80cm x 80cm) and no maximum size. There should be no loose or easily detachable parts.
  • Imitation or artificial plant material should not be used.
  • You may use tasteful props to accessorize or enhance your planter.
  • Grow Green Planters must follow the theme ‘Movement in the Garden'.
  • Your entry may be made from a single piece or several smaller pieces that fit together to meet the total size.

Please read the full Grow Green Planters Factsheet for further information on staging your planter.
