About the competition:

This is a unique opportunity for pupils and students to show off their creative abilities at RHS Garden Wisley this Christmas.

Primary and secondary schools are invited to submit their show-stopping Christmas tree designs to be in with a chance of bringing their idea to life in a spectacular winter display in the famous Glasshouse.

This year's theme is based on the poem "A Visit from St Nicholas" by Clement Clarke Moore.

This classic poem, often referred to as "Twas the Night Before Christmas" from its first line, has inspired many adaptations and is a firm Christmas favourite. There's a lot to this poem too in its 56 lines and 14 stanzas!

This Christmas, we want your pupils or students to design and decorate a stunning Christmas tree with this well-loved poem in mind. We want to see their creativity shine through with a beautiful and original tree that represents their interpretation of the poem.

Who can enter?

Entries are welcome from all primary and secondary schools (or pupils aged 5-16) from the South East of England and London (Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, West Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Greater London, City of London, Surrey and Middlesex).

Schools must be also registered with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening. If you're not registered yet, click here.

How to enter:

This competition is now closed for 2017. See the winners here.

A panel of RHS judges will select their 10 favourite designs, five primary schools and five secondary schools, each with their own understanding and interpretation of the poem.

The 10 winning schools will be invited to decorate a 6-7ft Christmas tree in the Glasshouse at RHS Garden Wisley and the decorated trees will be on display over Christmas for all visitors to enjoy.

Additionally, this year there will be a People's Choice prize. The trees will be judged by our visitors and they will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite tree. The winner will be announced once the competition has finished and the votes have been counted.
